How to Choose Car Sub woofer for Your Car Stereo

Many people with car audio systems like deep, thumping bass, but factory stereo systems commonly do not include car sub woofer - the speakers that produce great bass. Here's how to pick the right car sub woofer for your car.

Before You Shop

Steps:

1. Think about the kind of music you like to listen to.

2. Decide where you want to put the car sub woofer. Subwoofers commonly go into an enclosure in the trunk, but by using special enclosures, subwoofers can go under seats or in side panels.

Tips:
Your taste in music will determine what kind of enclosure the subwoofers will be put into, and that will influence the type of subwoofers you choose.

At the Store

Steps:

1. Tell the salesperson what type of music you like. This will help him or her advise you on the car sub woofer and enclosure you should get.

2. Show the salesperson where you intend to put the subwoofers in your car.

3. Decide what kind of enclosures you will put the subwoofers in. This may be dictated by the speakers you've chosen.

4. Decide what size subwoofers you want. (Common sizes are 8-inch, 10-inch, 12-inch and 15-inch. The larger the subwoofer, the lower the frequency it will produce.)

5. Decide if you want one or two subwoofers. If you want to use one subwoofer, choose a 4-ohm speaker. If you decide to use two subwoofers, use 8-ohm speakers and run them in parallel. (Ask the shop's installer how to do this.)

Tips:
If you intend to use three or more subwoofers, seek advice on wiring them.
